Christmas at the Schroeders

We had a wonderful Christmas with my family in Nebraska. We had waited to tell everyone from back there until we could tell them in person. We got in on Friday night and went straight to dinner at the Drover, so yummy! Right when we got there I pulled our waitress to the side and asked her to take a picture of us and on the count of three tell everyone to say, "Jessica is pregnant!". She got some good shots of everyone in shock and then congratulating us. My mom had the best look on her face in the first picture and everyone else just started looking at us with confusion on their faces.

Today I'm 11 weeks pregnant, starting my 12th week. So far so good. The nausea has improved tremendously from the past 4 weeks as long as I eat something small every few hours. Before it was all day everyday no matter how often I ate or what I ate. We have our next ultrasound for the First Trimester Screening on January 9th and if all goes well we should be in the clear and I'll open up the blog to the public!

1st Ultrasound

We had our first appointment with Dr. Riley on Thursday and we spent about an hour talking with him. He sent us to the ultrasound clinic today. The baby is measuring exactly on point, at 7 weeks 2 days with my due date still at July 18. The first picture is a 3D picture where you can see a little arm bud, and I guess a big head at the top, but it's still pretty "embryo-like" at this stage. The second picture shows the heartbeat, which was 156 beats per minute! This is a healthy heartbeat, which was a relief because the doctor said the risk of miscarriage goes down to 2% once you see a strong heartbeat. It's still hard to believe that I'm actually pregnant and that in about 7 months I should be delivering a baby...O.M.G.

Our next appointment with Dr. Riley is January 3, and then another ultrasound that week.

2 pink lines!!

I'm officially 4 weeks pregnant, starting my fifth week today! I was 2 days late so I took a pregnancy test this morning and there it was, 2 pink lines! This was our third month of trying and we couldn't be happier that it happened so quickly. I have to admit, I'm a little bummed I wasn't able to tell Marc in a more fantastic way. He stayed home from work today (which he never does) because he is sick. We are actually both sick, yesterday afternoon we both started feeling a sore throat coming on and by the end of the night our throats' were on fire. We didn't sleep well and both felt really crappy when we woke up. But anyway, around 10 this morning I went upstairs just to double check (I actually thought my period was late because I was so stressed out about losing my brand new iphone...yes, I lost it at the Chargers game on Sunday, NOT happy), as I had taken a test last Friday and it was negative so I wasn't expecting a positive. When the test came back positive I ran downstairs and just stared at Marc for a good 10 seconds before I said, "Oh.My.God". Not the smoothest way, but effective none the less.

I'm feeling great, no early pregnancy symptoms yet, but it's still very early. We are very excited and just can't believe it. We want to tell everyone but know we need to wait for awhile. According to all the apps and websites my due date is July 18, 2012, but I'll call the doctor tomorrow and set up our first appointment for next month. Till then, we're crossing our fingers that it "sticks".
